I Wish My Degree Was This Easy To Achieve...

I was highly disturbed today when I heard that the Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, who recently won UK Celebrity Big Brother, is receiving an honourary doctorate from Leeds University in Manchester. She will be henceforth known as Dr. Shilpa Shetty. Well, in my opinion, THIS IS CRAP!!! I'm a medical student, and I study my ass off each year in order to finish my degree, how is it that someone who dances around in skimpy clothes in front of the camera and is a mediocre actress can earn a doctorate without any studying?? Is this what the world is coming to? Why don't we all get on-screen, if that's all it takes to get a degree these days?? I am so sickened at the thought that there is no value left to anything anymore...

An Ingenious Idea

My sister went and bought a face cream from Jurlique, and was given a couple of samples. These samples came in a sample pouch, which ordinarily one would think is a waste (as in the energy used to make the pouch, which is then going to end up in the landfill, which is more waste). However, this miraculous pouch, if soaked in water and then planted in soil, apparently grows into a native Australian plant (in this case, a lemon bottlebrush - or something of the sort)!! I was absolutely blown away by this highly innovative idea, and the pouch itself is delightful...kudos to Jurlique!

Just A Thought

Was just reading the latest edition of Australian Reader's Digest, and came across an article about how tons of photographs of people's faces had been taken in Sydney, and then morphed into one male and one female face, creating the Face of Sydney (for each sex). Am I the only one who thinks that this was a complete waste of time and money, not to mention article space in the magazine? Just a thought...

Just A Thought

Everyone these days is encouraged to neuter their pets (except for breeders of course), and with good reason. However, what if there comes a time when there are no pets left, because none can be produced as we have been sterilising our animals? Does this mean that our great grandkids might not have the same love and companionship from our dog or cat that we got growing up? Just a thought...

Discovering a New Charity Shop!

It's always great when you find these things just when you're out grocery shopping or something mundane like that! On a weekly family trip to an Indian grocery store, I noticed a shop a few doors down that said 'Animal Welfare League'. Suffice to say, my curiousity was already pricked. I went in, and was greeted by two by very pleasant elderly ladies. Looking around the shop, I saw that clothes were not the only things on sale (that also, many of them at $5 an item), there were also books, accessories, and bric-a-brac. However, the store needed a revamping and also lots of re-arranging (having volunteered in a similar Save the Children store, but one that was well-organized). Nevertheless, it warmed my heart to add to my op-shop list a new store with a worthy cause!

So here's all the newest in eco-friendly products, many of them sourced from Greenthinkers...however, I soon will be adding Australian companies that make recycled products and other things along the same vein.
